Action on better transport links
Over the last year Jeremy has led the local campaigns for improvements on the A7 north of Galashiels, safer bus routes for local schoolchildren and cheaper travel for young people and students. Jeremy has also spoken out against the delays in the Borders Railway project since May 2007.
campaign successes
There have been significant campaign successes: a concessionary fare scheme for young travellers has been introduced, improvements to markings and sightlines for the A7 north of Galashiels have been made, 20’s plenty areas completed around all schools and electronic speed restriction signs when entering towns and villages installed.
Jeremy also helped secure rural transport services, such as that for Mellerstain and has helped community groups in improving community bus and travel services.
Roads action
During 2006 Jeremy has been the leading camapigner for roads improvements, as well as alternative investment on public transport in the Borders and Penciuik. He has successfully campaigned at Leadburn and the BGH junction which has been known for its high accident rate. As part of his campaign Jeremy invited the Transport Minister for a site visit to the junction in September. The announcement of improvements comes as a direct result of the Minister seeing for himself the accident black-spot.
Jeremy is also working with local residents for improvements in the state of the roads in the Yarrow Valley, for better provision on the A68 and A702. He successfully secured funding for a new study into the feasibility of a bypass for Selkirk.
Jeremy has also launched his major campaign for more overtaking places on the A7 north of Gala and is working with the emergency services and local communities along the route.
